ThyssenKrupp worker dies in Uptown Accident

Dec 3

I have fond memories of the Thyssen Krupp elevator guys. I saw them frequently during four years of high rise living at UNCC. Seeing their vans parked outside of my building always brightened my day because, let’s face it, by the time they got there the elevator hadn’t been working for two weeks and I had been climbing 10 flights of stairs 3 times a day.

Now that I am in a big girl job, I still have the pleasure of interacting with them daily as our office building undergoes elevator renovation. The guys like to scare me by asking “are you sure you want to take that elevator?” and “really? you’re gonna take that one”. I laugh it off and then run for the stairs when they aren’t looking.

So I’m sad today to report that a ThyssenKrupp worker died yesterday while working in the (obviously) cursed new Wachovia Tower. These guys are some of the friendliest workers in the city and have saved my butt many times when Cherie Berry’s elevators decided to stop working. Mr. Beaty we’ll surely be missed.
