Keeping Up with the Belks

Being sick often times means being bored. Especially if that boredom occurs in an apartment without cable tv. When I’m holed up with the flu, YouTube is my only reprieve. So I’ve decided to compile a list of my top ten favorite online videos (for the time being, at least). Some of them make me laugh, others make me cry, and some just make me go hmmmmmmm. So without further ado and in no particular order, I give you the Meck approved YouTube 10.

1. David Thompson talks about homeland security
ahhh, good old DT and the video that put Charlotte on the world wide radar. It’s been posted here before but it’s worth revisiting. And don’t let CLTBlog fool you. It was KUWTB that renewed popularity in this classic clip. You’re welcome.

2. Sofiane Sylve’s seven pirouettes
So you may have heard about my dancer background before. This video surfaced online when I was still in high school and it has awed me ever since. No one make it look as effortless as Sofie. Even dance neophytes can appreciate the beauty in it. Whenever I need a reminder that perfection is possible, I watch this.

3. Man yells at his cat
I don’t really know why. Just hilarious. If you don’t think it’s funny, I’ll end you.

4. Charlie the Unicorn
This is classic. And even though I was only introduced to it a few months ago (I know, I know, where have I been?) I can’t get enough of it now. Come on, Chaaaarlieeeeeeee, Watch the video Chaaarlieeeeeeee

5. Ballet meets Stripping
This one combines the great loves of my life, ballet and bon jovi. But really, this girl obviously had a lot of dance training, in both the classical and erotic arts. And I don’t care what anyone says, doing sit-ups upside down on a pole aint easy. Ladies, show this to your man if you want him to take you to the Nutcracker.

6. Appalachian is Hot Hot Hot
Few schools in North Carolina receive more ridicule than UNCC. However, with this video, Appalachian definitely lightened the load. A running joke on my sorority floor all through 2005-2006, this video brings me renewed happiness now as Gabby was recently accepted into their graduate school. Even though this video may be lame lame lame, nothing is hotter than my best friend.

7. Twitter Whore
Pretty much what people on twitter are like. Exactly. OMG, I’m totally J/K . ROFLMAO. Srsly you guys.

8. OPA OPA, America/Europa
Dikoteka Avariya. Russian Hip Hop. The only music video on the list. OPA was the most popular song the summer of 2006 when I lived in Russia. When I watch this video I’m back under Nevsky Prospekt, standing in Red Square at 5am, and staring at Lenin’s embamled body. Sweet memories. Come on DJ!

9. Fred the Pekingese
All together now, awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. I want a peke. Don’t judge me.

10. Knob Hockey
There are so many good KHL episodes (in the crease, out of the crease), but this one is the best. A battle for pennsylvania parody. Sometimes it’s good to laugh at your own team. You Crosby haters will particularly like this one. And laughing at philly is always fun too.
